This year's event features a keynote presentation by Patrick Kushe, titled "Prominence to Prison: Why Smart People Do Dumb Things." Patrick is an International Speaker, Trainer & Consultant on Business Ethics, who takes you on his own personal journey from successful CFP and entrepreneur to international fugitive, incarceration in two countries and back again. He is uniquely qualified to explore the critical thinking errors that underpin white-collar crime and unethical behavior. His personal experiences, observations and reflections about the causes and preventions of white-collar crime will entertain and provoke you to think more deeply about your own behaviors. The conference will also offer two pre-conference seminars, ten professional and informational concurrent and general sessions as well as vendor exhibits.

The Sheraton Overland Park Hotel reservation deadline is September 23. Make your reservations by calling 913-234-2100 and mention "KSGFOA". For additional information, please contact the Hugo Wall School of Urban and Public Affairs at 316-978-7240 or e-mail Annie at annette.murach@wichita.edu

KSGFOA Code of Ethics
The membership of the Kansas Government Finance Officers Association adopted the national GFOA code of ethics in February 2004. The Code of Ethics are legal, moral and professional standards of conduct government finance officials should adhere to in the fulfillment of their professional responsibilities. Standards of professional conduct as set forth in this code are promulgated in order to enhance the performance of all persons engaged in public finance.

Exemption of New Commercial Machinery and Equipment
Many municipalities are now seeing the effects of the state legislation enacting an exemption of new commercial machinery and equipment. As such Rod Franz, Salina, assembled a listing of the reduction of personal property values of various cities and counties. This information makes no assumptions on the increase in overall taxable assessed value. Nor does the information make the assumption that all reductions are exclusively the result of the legislation enacted.

  • KSGFOA LISTSERV
KSGFOA has created a listserv for all Full members - those who work for a government in a finance capacity or who teach public finance at a university. This interactive listserv will allow members of the organization to share ideas and ask timely questions. The listserv will be supported by the League of Kansas Municipalities, with whom we have an affiliate relationship. The listserv will greatly expand the utility of KSGFOA as a networking tool.

To protect our membership from mass emails and unsolicited emails from vendors, the listserv is ONLY available to Full-members. For information with regards to joining the listserv please contact Tracy McDaneld at tmcdaneld@lkm.org
